Lawn & Garden>Swallowtail on Mexican ZinniaMaintaining attractive communities and home landscapes increases property values and promotes an improved quality of life.  Whether you have questions about lawns, vegetables, flowers, or landscape maintenance, Extension information is available for all who live and work in Wyandotte County --homeowners, lawn services, and nurseries. We are prepared to provide you with non biased, research-based information.

The Wyandotte County demonstration gardens display current horticulture practices related to flowers, gardening and composting. Our trained Extension Master Gardener volunteers help consumers with information about planting, care of lawns, and gardens.

Starting Plants From Seed

Grace Troeh, Extension Master Gardener
The class will cover basic seedling needs, such as preparation of picky seeds, soils, germinating temperatures, light, moisture and seedling hygiene. Mrs. Troeh will also discuss how to handle seeds saved from our own plants to preserve viability.  Additionally, she will present ideas for setups to start seedlings, some of which can be made at home from readily available items.

Container Gardening

The class will cover how to grow plants in pots and other unique containers to add beauty to your landscape.  You will learn about soils to use and basic maintenance (light, moisture, fertilizers, etc.) for successful growing.

Sharing Plants from the Garden
